A catalogue of self-hosted alternatives to the usual services: Immich instead of Google Photos, Syncthing instead of Dropbox, Jellyfin instead of Netflix, Outline instead of Notion, Bitwarden instead of a paid password manager. Thirty-seven categories in all — from VPN and mail server to smart home, git server and a personal finance tracker.

What separates it from dozens of similar lists is that this one does not go stale. The data lives in `dyos-db.json`, and a GitHub Action walks every repository through the API once a day, pulls stars and the last commit date, and regenerates the README. Every row gets a colour mark: green means it was updated this month, amber this year, red more than a year ago. Deciding what to take takes a second.

By our count at the end of August 2026, 106 of the 149 projects had been updated within the month and 16 had not been touched for over a year — and those are honestly marked red rather than quietly dropped.

The submission criteria are written down and they are strict: everyday needs only, open source only, only what runs on an ordinary VPS, and no cut-down Community Editions with user limits. There is very little filler inside.

Worth knowing: the catalogue gives links, not deployment instructions; a green mark means a recent commit, not a fresh release; and the repository ships no licence file, so copying the whole database into your own project needs the author's permission.
