Freebuff
Imagine a coding agent in your terminal with no subscription, no API key and no card. Freebuff pays for the models with ads shown between agent turns. The catch is in the small print: outside 24 countries you get a limited mode, and your prompts help pick the ads.
We have not run it ourselves: described from the docs and the repository.

What it is
Freebuff calls itself a free alternative to Claude Code, Codex and Cursor. You install it with one npm command, describe the task in plain words, and the agent finds the relevant files, makes the changes and runs the checks that matter for your project. The work is split between nine subagents: one finds files, another reviews the edits, a third drives a real browser. Advertisers pick up the bill, and a short text ad about cloud or hosting shows up right in the terminal between agent turns.
The free part has a border, and it runs around 24 countries. Russia, Belarus and Israel are not on the full-access list, so there Freebuff runs in limited mode: six fast Flash models from Xiaomi, Zhipu, DeepSeek and Upstage plus an anonymous beta, at 25 Freebucks a day. Claude, GPT and Gemini are not in that set. For a pet project, or to see at no cost how an agent finds its own way around a codebase, that is enough. Work code under an NDA is better kept out of it.
